Fly fish the Rio Gallegos in Santa Cruz Provence,
Patagonia, Argentina for trophy sea run brown trout. Staying at
the beautiful Bella Vista Lodge and fishing 55 km's of private water.
Fishing on the Rio Gallegos is often with 2 handed
spey rods and if you have not tried this style of fly fishing previously
then this river presents the perfect opportunity. Equipment and
instruction provided as required at no additional charge. Otherwise
a single handed 7 or 8 weight rod in a 9 or 10 foot length is ideal.
The Rio Gallegos is a large, picturesque river with excellent pools
and structure that provide interesting fly fishing. There is a good
run of brown trout from the ocean and the average size of the fish
is very large, 10 lb or so, and trophies are landed every year.
The Rio Gallegos Chico is a small charming spring creek with huge
character that flows into the main river on the Estancia's Eastern
boundary. Abundant weed growth and rich aquatic food combine to
make this one of the World's most exceptional dry fly fisheries.
The Bella Vista Lodge comprises 5 en suite bedrooms
and allows a maximum of 6 guests, a comfortable living room, a large
wading room and spacious complimentary bar, fully stocked with local
and imported spirits, to toast the catch of the day. Lamb and beef
raised on the Farm ensure quality ingredients on which the Chef
bases an array of delicious, traditional Argentine specialties.
Carefully selected wines compliment his mouth-watering menus.

My first sea trout at Bella Vista was 20 lb's and 86cm. There is
a photo of Nacho showing off this fish in issue 61 of the Fly Life
magazine.
