Operating this guiding business was great fun and given the nature of Daylesford most of the clients were complete beginners whom had never handled a fly rod and most had never caught a fish by any method. The majority of clients chose to fish for only 2 hours or 1/2 a day which made it challenging to get them onto a fish given the lakes in the area are extremely food rich and the trout are far from starving and can pick the times they choose to feed. A 24 inch brown trout from this area can easily weigh 6 1/2lb and be a missile.

Well success was had all round except for 1 poor client whom traveled all the way from Melbourne in torrential rain and fished for 2 hours for 1 take and missed the opportunity.
I discovered the pleasure in helping others with an enjoyable fishing experience and was exposed to some of the challenges that make guiding what it is.

Unfortunately the drought started to wreak havoc on the local waterways and it was time for a move to Melbourne.
