The tropical island destination of Mauritius is
an interesting mix of cultures with Indian, Chinese, Muslim and
African people comprising the majority of the population. Mauritius
is a beach holiday playground for many Europeans and the coastline
offers a variety of resorts.
The population of Mauritius is close to 1.5 million
and fishing is a popular activity and a part of the lifestyle. A
surrounding reef ensures plenty of lagoon waters for propogation
of juvenile fish and the distance from Mauritius to other land masses
and large population centres ensures that good fishing is available.
Mauritius makes an ideal stopover pre or post an
Africa trip for either couples or families and provides good saltwater
fly fishing opportunities for the Travelling Fly Fisher.
The real attraction for the fly fisher in this area is a trip to
one of the remote islands or atolls in this part of the Indian Ocean.
Mothership trips are currently available to the very remote St Brandon’s
- Cargados Carjagos Shoals. The fishing here is comparable to the
remote coral atolls of the Seychelles (some say better) and is certainly
world class for a variety of species including bonefish and giant
and other trevally.
The number of anglers whom will experience the pristine
flats fishery at St Brandon's is very limited as there are only
2 short seasons each year and a small number of anglers per trip.
Packages are 9 nights on board which allows for 6 1/2 days of fly
fishing and cost EU5900.00. Full information package provided upon
request.
