Agua Boa River Brazil
There are 6 known species of peacock bass and 4 of these have been
caught in the Agua Boa River, a clear water tributary of the Amazon
in Brazil. 3 species of peacock bass are common in the Agua Boa
River.
These indigenous fresh water fish are caught from
boats in one of the many lagoons off the main river or in the main
river itself. This species provides an incredible fly rod target
with visual action and explosive strikes par for the course.
The largest of the peacock bass is the Temensis
species and fish larger than 20 pounds are landed each season on
the fly with fish over 10 pounds being notable captures.
The peacock bass is in the Cichlid family and has
in common with many other Cichlids the nest building activity and
mouth brooding of the young during the breeding season.
Cichlids are an interesting fish to fly cast for and provide a particular
strike and fight that makes any size Cichlid a most interesting
fly rod quarry.
The peacock bass Temensis species found in the Agua Boa are the
largest and most pugnacious cichlids on the planet.
This location provides the opportunity to fly fish for these magnificent
fish in a pristine environment, clear water and to realise a fly
fishing dream.
The Agua Boa also has many other fly rod targets
along with the Peacock Bass.
