Otherwise known as skinnies, leatherskin and queenies, these fish are a great fish to catch on a fly rod. They are fast, aggresive and jump frequently making them a most welcome catch.

The gill rattling, high jumping antics of the queenfish make them a fish which hooks many anglers.

A heavy mono leader is required for giant queenfish due to the abbrasive teeth and duration of the fight. Queenfish will take a variety of flies under different circumstances and can be caught in the shallows, from piers, and offshore.

Queenfish can be found patrolling river mouths and will readily move into estuarine systems and onto the flats often utilising channels or gutters to negotiate shallow water.

There are various species of queenfish throughout the world. Queenfish are numerous in the Northern parts of Australia where the Giant Queenfish is most common. Throughout the Pacific Islands the smaller Needlescale Queenfish are common.
